Caring For Your Zither

Tune Gently!

As with all brand new stringed instruments, it will take a little time to “play in” new zither strings to where they stay consistently in tune. All our zithers are tuned before they leave our shop, but they may fall a bit out of tune during shipping. When tuning, make very very small, gentle adjustments using the tuning wrench. This video, created by Debbie Center of World of Harmony Music, will help guide you through the process.

Changing Bottom Zither String

We want our zithers to be enjoyed by musicians young and old for generations to come. Please note for safety that young children should not tune the instrument and it should be played under adult supervision.

General Care of Your Zither

In a climate controlled environment, like your home, any of our woods should do fine. If you live in a drier climate or experience extreme dry conditions, especially in the winter due to heated air, we highly recommend that you use a simple humidifier in the room where you keep your zither and any other musical instruments you may have. With any instrument, you want to always protect against extremes in temperatures and environment, like heat from direct sunlight. You should never leave any wooden stringed instrument in a vehicle. You may wipe down your zither with a dry, soft cloth and use a large soft-bristled brush (like a make-up brush) to dust around and under the strings.
